Hi there! I’m Kristin Baird, the owner/maker behind Kit’s Crafts. I started this shop as an outlet for my creativity. I love to make things with my hands and design new patterns. Generally, I gravitate toward sewing, but I also love to knit and crochet. Mostly, my shop has stuffed animals and purses, but in the fall and winter, you will find various hand knit/crochet goods.
I’ve been a maker since I was very young, preferring crafts to just about every other form of entertainment. Then, after high school, I was drawn to Interior Design as a profession because I could see that it would be a way for me to continue my passion for making, just on a larger scale. In 2009, I obtained a Bachelor’s of Interior Design from Utah State University and worked in a few firms before I had my first child. I wanted my schedule to be more flexible as a mother, so I turned back to my love of crafting.
In 2012, I started a blog, kits-crafts.com, where I provided various tutorials to encourage others to craft. About 2 years in, I decided to start selling my handmade goods at various local markets. I had some success, but had to take a break when I was pregnant with my second child as the pregnancy drained me of all ambition.
Not long after my second child was born, my husband got a job in Rome, Italy. We lived abroad for almost 2 years and hope to move back some day.
We returned to the states toward the end of 2017 and I got right to work, sewing up a storm for local markets. I was hoping to build my business only on in person sales, however, the Covid pandemic hit and it was clear that if I wanted to continue my passion project, it would have to move online.
So, here we are! I hope you enjoy my site and find something to love! If you want to see more behind the scenes images, please follow me on Instagram @kits_crafts
